Charities

Thanks to your support, since 2007 the Armadillo Dash Half Marathon & 5K has donated $228,000.00 to local children’s charities. The benefiting charities for 2014 are:

  • Scotty’s House opened in 1995 and today provides a multidisciplinary team approach to the prevention, intervention, prosecution and treatment of child abuse. Scotty’s House provides a safe, neutral environment in which child victims of abuse take part in forensic interviews with specially trained staff, undergo medical examinations which include testing for sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy, and receive counseling, support and case management services. Scotty’s House seeks to reduce the psychological and emotional trauma faced by victims of child abuse and allow the child to live a healthy and productive life free from the debilitating symptoms so often experienced by young victims of trauma. Scotty’s House also facilitates multidisciplinary teams in seven Brazos Valley counties for the purpose of coordinating the work done by Child Protective Services, law enforcement and the prosecutor’s office.

  • Still Creek Ranch has been under the supervision of Danny and Margaret O’Quinn since 1988 and built up to its present state. Its purpose is to provide a loving, structured home for boys and girls who will be trained to be tomorrows leaders. The goal is to give children a second chance, share the love of Jesus Christ with them, restore their confidence, and instill in them a Christ-like character.

For more than 18 years, Still Creek Ranch has served children and families either in residence or through outreach services. We are located 15 miles from Bryan, Texas on 275 acres of Ranch Land.

We accept children from all over Texas and around the world. Twenty-six children live in cottages at our two facilities: Still Creek Boys Ranch and Still Creek Girls Ranch. The boys and girls ages 8-18 grow up in a Christ-centered, structured environment and enjoy a private Christian education and a variety of vocational, spiritual and extra-curricular activities. We give children a hope and a future.

Still Creek Ranch operates strictly by donations. We receive no state, federal, government grants or United Way funding. Through the generosity of committed partners like you, individuals, corporations, foundations, civic groups, and churches, Still Creek Ranch is able to meet the needs for its programs.
  • The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Brazos Valley, in association with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, is dedicated to help youth of all backgrounds develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders of our community and nation.

Thanks to the vision of the Parker’s, the Astin’s, the Doak’s and may other Bryan/College Station leaders the Boys Club of Bryan was born 50 years ago. Since then the Boys & Girls Club of Brazos Valley has been in the forefront of youth development, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances. The Boys & Girls Club of Brazos Valley enriches the lives of young people and provides a safe haven in which they can learn and grow. We are dedicated to ensuring that our community’s disadvantaged youth have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape their futures.

The Boys & Girls Club of Brazos Valley is facility-based, has six full time youth development professional staff supplemented by over 900 volunteers, and offers daily access to a broad range of programs that promote the health, social, educational, vocational, character and leadership development of girls and boys served. Club programs foster a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness and influence that builds self-confidence and self-esteem.
  • Brazos Valley Food Bank BackPacks Program provides food for children over the weekend in a backpack discreetly distributed every Friday throughout the school year. Schools are provided 30 backpacks per week to provide to children at risk of going hungry over the weekend. These backpacks provide children not only needed nourishment but school readiness, self-confidence and a self-assured start to the school day and week. During the summer months, scaled down BackPacks operate at recreation centers and other venues.
